Somewhere
Down the Road is an appropriate title for the newest
collection from Amy Grant. Not only does it share its name
with the soul-searching ballad from her introspective Behind
the Eyes, but it also places emphasis on a personal spiritual
journey, one that has its highs and lows: “Somewhere down the road
/ There’ll be answers to the questions / Somewhere down the road /
Though we cannot see it now …You will find mighty arms reaching for
you … and they will hold the answers at the end of the road.”
In
a year of pain and loss, it’s safe to say Grant isn’t in the Heart
in Motion-type pop-dance mood. Rather, she’s reflective
and mellow, yet still hopeful.
Many
of the songs on
the album, both lyrically and melodically,
follow that
theme, including the lead single “Better Than a Hallelujah,”
which speaks about God’s nearness during pain and heartbreak.
“Overnight,” a duet with daughter Sarah Chapman, is the most
upbeat song on the record, but still carries a lesson about patience.
“Third World Woman” is a socially conscious track spotlighting
the needy. Grant closes the collection with a new recording of her
classic “Arms of Love” and “Imagine/Sing the Wondrous Love of
Jesus,” from her Hymns
of Faith collection.
Somewhere
Down the Road is an
intentionally raw reflection on life, relationships and the journey
of faith from a seasoned artist who pours her heart into music. Her
vulnerability will encourage listeners who may feel that they were
