R&B Star Montell Jordan now Leading Worship

For ’90s R&B star Montell Jordan, music was his life and his lucrative career. But since leaving the secular music world in 2010 to be a full-time worship pastor, he now says singing is secondary to spreading the Word of God to unbelievers.

Jordan, known for his megahit β€œThis Is How We Do It,” says it took a series of tragic events before he truly gave his life to Christ: β€œWe had a house fire; we lost everything. My wife and I experienced the loss of a child. We went through bankruptcy. It got to a point where we’d tried it our way long enough. [We said], β€˜Let’s see what would happen if we tried it God’s way.’”

The couple jumped full-force into ministry. Jordan is the worship pastor at the multicultural Victory World Church in Norcross, Ga., which releases a worship CD/DVD combo this month called Shake Heaven. Jordan wrote and sings on many of the tracks.

The 44-year-old is also a licensed minister. He and his wife lead a marriage ministry, work with the children’s church and youth groups. Jordan’s desire is to continue to use his testimony to touch the lives that others may not be able to reach.

β€œI have the ability or the credibility to reach and speak to people that your [Joel] Osteens or T.D. Jakes might not be able to reach,” Jordan says. β€œI lived my life openly on YouTube via the Internet, and you can see all the things I said and all the things I did.

β€œThe same way that they saw that then, they can see what God is doing now. They could say if [God] could bring him from that, then [He] could definitely do it for me.”
