Not too long ago, while on an interview for my new book, God, Trump, and the 2020 Election, I mentioned that before Trump was elected, Christians were praying for God to raise somebody up—we just didn’t have anyone in mind. I attributed that quote to a friend, and that friend was none other than IHOPKC (International House of Prayer) founder Mike Bickle.
I had the privilege of having Bickle on my podcast this week, where we discussed what God is doing by raising Trump up in such a significant hour. Bickle recalls the shock Christians felt when Trump began defending Christian values—and even more shock when he won!
“We needed God to intervene because the conversation in the culture was leaning more and more to the left, and more and more the radical left, and becoming hostile to things that are important in the Word of God,” he says. “And that trend was getting stronger and stronger. And we said, ‘Lord, we have need of a mid-course correction. Please raise somebody up and put them in place to get this thing in a different direction.'”
And God has been doing exactly that. Not only did He raise up Trump as a defender of Christian values and religious freedom, but He also used Paula White Cain to influence Trump for the good. Now, Cain is head of the Trump administration’s Faith and Opportunity Initiative.
God continues to reach people in ways we never expect. And, Bickle adds with a laugh, “He never asks permission for what He’s doing, because we might not have given it to Him.”
But beyond Trump’s election, Bickle sees a spiritual trend happening in our country, and it has everything to do with biblical prophecy.
“I think the conflict in America right now in the Western world is best summarized and declared in Psalm 2,” he says. “I believe Psalm 2 is the clearest statement of what’s happening, particularly in the Western world right now and in this nation. … There are a lot of chapters in the Bible that talk about end-times events and trends, positive and negative. But I don’t see anything as clear as Psalm 2.”
In Psalm 2, David says that all the kings and rulers of the earth gather together against the Lord. As Bickle puts it, rulers of society unite to drive out the influence of the Word of God from our culture. He says that’s exactly what’s happening right now.
“They see the Word of God as bondage, holding human potential back,” he says. “They see the Word of God as bonds and chains … because ‘it’s archaic.’ They say we don’t enter into our full sexual potential as human beings because of the archaic, old-fashioned Bible. ‘We’re not allowed to experience all these new things’ is what the radical left [is using as] their rhetoric, their storyline.”
As a result, “God is raising up some leaders across the earth—political leaders who are taking a stand against that radical leftist agenda,” Bickle says.
We, too, must take a stand against this unbiblical agenda. We can’t just let political leaders like Trump or Brazil’s conservative president, Jair Bolsonaro, be the ones to stand in the gap. We have a mandate from heaven to intercede for our land and cry out for a miracle.
