Michael’s wisdom comes out of a place of brokenness. When he was a college graduate, he wasn’t in a good place emotionally. His relationship with his family wasn’t very good, he didn’t have a lot of friends and he was filled with anger. He’d had professional success while still in college and thought the Lord was going to open all kinds of doors for him. But he kept getting “no” for all his efforts.
Finally Michael asked the Lord, what do You want to do through me? He found the answer in the book of Matthew 22:37-38—love God with all your heart, soul and mind; and love your neighbor as yourself.
Michael took those verses to heart and decided to embrace having a loving, fulfilling relationship with God and loving others. His next challenge was finding what is key in loving God and others. The answer is found in Scripture. The more we can hone in on the Word, the more we’ll see our relationships flourish. Scripture is the best tool to enhance relationships because God’s Word moves our hearts and minds. Have you held on to anger? The way to reverse anger is moving toward forgiveness.
In his studies, Michael identified seven principles to experience real loving relationships. He found the greatest secret to successful relationships is honor. People have immense value because God has put value on us by sending His Son to redeem us. When you view people through the lens of God’s love, you see their true value.
