A predator ensnares his prey with a trap meant to weaken and disarm the life so easily enticed by the bait set before it. Once the predator catches his prey, his goal is to steal, kill and destroy.
Do you know this is exactly what the enemy is trying to do to you today through your words? There are baits of offense, judgment, criticism and anger set before you. Will you allow yourself to be allured by the ever-so-slight need for retribution? I can tell you for sure that if you allow your tongue to speak death, you will eat the fruit of those decisions.
Proverbs 18:21 (NASB) tells us, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” What does the fruit of your life look like? Are you holding grudges and bitterness against those who have wronged you? Are you constantly spewing negativity like a leaky faucet? I can guarantee that if so, you are reaping the fruit of that in your life so great that it pours into the lives of those around you.
We’ve all been around people who are so negative and judgmental that when you leave their presence you feel weighed down, heavy and depressed. Likewise, there are those whose positivity, faith and exuberance light up their face and their presence brings you nothing but peace and joy. Take it a step further and consider the music you listen to—are the words positive and hopeful or filled with sin and hate? You will immediately feel those words change your mood as you listen to the music.
I once invited some friends over for dinner, and I was deep in a prayer time with the Lord when they arrived. Caught up in what was happening in prayer, I had no clue they were sitting right downstairs in my kitchen. During my encounter, demons started coming against me, encircling me and trying to take me down. This was only the first or second time I had warred against demons in a prayer time in my own house.
I began pleading the blood of Jesus, binding the enemy, releasing a hedge of protection and taking every thought captive, yet the attacks kept coming! Bewildered by what was going on, I asked God to give me revelation on what was happening. He immediately spoke to me and said the three demons were sent by three believers who had spoken against me. I don’t know who they were, but I forgave them, and their words became null and void. The demons left.
We know from Psalm 103:20 that angels hear the words of the Lord and go into action. I’m sure the same can be said about demons hearing the negativity and hate spewing from our lips. The famous evangelist Reinhard Bonnke would say, “God’s words in your mouth are just as powerful as God’s words in His mouth, because they are His words!”
Watch what you are speaking today, and start declaring life and life abundantly over you and your household. This simple but profound truth will change everything. {eoa}
